Foreclosure filings in Weld County have fallen 4% in the second quarter of 2008 as compared to 2008’s first quarter.
However, if the first half of 2008 is compared with the first half of 2007, homes ending up on foreclosure listings have gone up by 23%.
A lot of people in trouble financially who could be facing foreclosure are not quite getting the required help in avoiding ending up on foreclosure lists.
Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Northern Colorado and Southeast Wyoming’s executive director, Sara Gilbert, said that out of all the people who call state’s foreclosure Hotline to schedule appointments for counseling on foreclosures, around 40% do not show up for appointments. Meaning, people who are capable of getting help, somehow do not take the very important step of reaching out for help.
The sooner a home owner recognizes that a problem with paying the mortgage exists, the easier it could be to find solutions to get their fiscal problems. Many experts believe that the earlier a home owner receives help, the chances of avoiding foreclosure increase.
In April this year a report showed that out of all the home owners who called the Hotline, 80% were able to avoid their houses being foreclosed upon.
It can be a very stressful situation for home owners facing foreclosure and it can be hard to make that move and try to get help, but no matter how hard it is, if getting in touch with a counselor can help avoid foreclosure, then that move should be made.
The Weld Foreclosure Coalition, which includes residents from the Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming and the United Way of Weld County are to conduct an event called ‘Walk Weld County’ on September 19, 2008. The aim is to make home owners aware of services for counseling which are available. Around forty people are to take part in walking neighborhoods and distributing brochures to inform people of options available.
